1/28/2024 0 Comments Sword of the necromancer co op![]() Sword of the Necromancer is a dungeon-crawler action RPG with Rogue-like elements where you can revive your defeated enemies to make them fight alongside you. Or if you just don’t *want* to that’s fine too - it’s your game! But as a customer, two player mode needs fixed and the reasoning you gave above is very weak. What would you do to bring back someone you love? And if it’s impossible to implement for technical reasons fine. I understand there may be some significant technical hurdles - a need to rewrite game code - and I understand that for sure. I got bored of 2-player quickly for exactly this reason. I say all this because I bought the game specifically to play 2-player and the one without the sword gets easily surpassed in experience, dies a lot faster, and generally has less fun. ![]() You can solve this problem easily or even ignore it outright. Find a “broomstick of the necromancer!” and give that to the second player. Solved.Ĥ: No one really gives a hoot about lore cohesion if the game is fun. E.g., if in two player mode increase monster health and damage by 25%, but do not provide this buff to summons. Solved.ģ: You can make the game harder by making the ENEMIES harder but leaving the summons as-is. Seriously, a couple of sentences explaining it and it’s done. (See below for “making the monsters harder”).Ģ: While I agree having a different system for 2 player would be more confusing, the game is already confusing - for example it was not at all apparent how to even have 2 players to begin with (for those reading you have to do the tutorial, you then have to do a run and kill the fist boss, then you must get and use the Homunculus Flask).įurther, any confusion can easily be clarified with a quick pop-up box explaining how 2 player works. Including a max number of summons per player per team, harder monsters, a set number of lives, etc. Thanks for the feedback and kind regards!Īs someone who loves co-op, and who got this game specifically for 2-player, I find these reasons unpersuasive.ġ: Game balance - balance can tweaked elsewhere. We have several surprises for the two-player mode, we can assure you the difference in the resurrection mechanic (which would be the only one! In every other way the players are exactly the same and can do the same things) doesn't make this mode any less fun. ![]() We have showcased the game at several shows and fairs, and it's true that this is a concern most players express early, but once they start playing in the two player mode they quickly forget about it and start working together and having fun, each one specializing in different types of combat (one with summons, the other more head-to-head). I hope you can understand better our reasons for not letting the "Homunculus" player summon monsters. Lore-wise, the second player is a summon (a "clone" created using an item), and also there is only one Sword of the Necromancer so it would not make sense that the summon has it too (this is the weakest reason, but is also an important one to mantain coherence in the game's story). We cannot make the game harder in the 2 player mode by making the enemies harder, as those enemies can later be used as summons, so it would ironically make the game easier. Having an arbitrary limit (for example, just let each player summon one monster, or having 3 monsters tops at the same time regardless of who summoned them) would be too convoluted to understand quickly for the players and would make it frustrating. Second player already makes the game much easier, having 6 monsters at the same time (3 per player) would make it even easier to a point the game wouldn't be fun (you could just summon 6 monsters and let them do the work for you) ![]() The second player ("Homunculus") can't summon monsters for several reasons, the most important being game balance.
